PLACEBO EFFECT is a beneficial effect produced by a placebo drug or treatment, which cannot be attributed to the properties of the placebo itself, and must therefore be due to the patient’s belief in that treatment.
In simple terms WebMD says:
A placebo is anything that seems to be a “real” medical treatment – but isn’t. It could be a pill, a shot, or some other type of “fake” treatment. IWhat all placebos have in common is that they do not contain an active substance meant to affect health.
As I suffer from IBS because of anxiety since 2 years, I’ve been reading about Psycho immunology a lot, since the medicines have little or temporary effect and also because I refrain from changing my shit like lifestyle giving zero importance to my health and appearance, will probably focus on it now on because I suffer from many other lifestyle related problems too. Never mind, so numerous studies have been performed, researches and experiments done and thesis written on this stellar psychological phenomenon, proving the miraculous effects of just BELIEVING that a medicine is working for us, even with no active ingredients, we can heal ourselves and reduce the symptoms especially in cases of Depression, anxiety, IBS, Parkinson’s disease, erectile dysfunction and chronic pains. The colours, sizes and sometimes even taste of placebo impacts the quantum of result even if their innate components are same and they are relatively subjective across the huge spectrum of people on the globe depending upon their history, society, culture etc. but we won’t go into all these details, you can check this beautifully written article on placebo effect or check this Podcast.
What we will discuss here, is how we can use PLACEBO EFFECT in our daily life.
Just forget for a second that this effect is related with health and is a concept of medical world. Try to observe the underlying principle which brings about the change in health while taking placebos, it’s the Power of Subconscious mind.
This is the only reason daily affirmations, gratitude journaling, repeating your wishes out loud, wish journaling etc. are trending nowadays because humans have finally discovered this “open secret”. It’s all about believing that somethings (whatever you wish for, although with good intentions ) is going to happen, no matter what and reminding yourself that it will, no matter how. It’s about sending those vibrations, those energies to the universe which can come back and do what apparently seems impossible. Now, these can be different things for different people, for some it might just be walking out of a bad relationship or success at the workplace, finding a better house or losing weight or something at simple as loving oneself (Believe me it’s easy, it just needs practice.) or anything else.
All you need to do is begin by training your subconscious mind, by reminding it about your goal or wish, again and again. One of the main reasons we call god for help when faced with a problem is because we’ve programmed our minds since birth that the one sitting somewhere in the sky or even beyond is operating everything that’s happening down here and can help us whenever we ask for it because he/she has the power and we put our faith so strongly into it that the problem actually subsides and this is not because he helped, it’s because your subconscious helps you in believing that the problem will be solved and starts sending you the ideas with which you can solve them and helps in aligning those energies with the one greater energy and the energies of others who might help you substantially, that’s it. That white light or energy is the god, the one without robes, name, rituals or whatever. (I sometimes feel sad about how polluted all of us and wrong interpretations of religions have made this concept).
Anyway, coming to training the mind, This can be done by writing a journal where you mention all your wishes and make it your milestone diary eventually (May the force be with you), spending few minutes mindfully meditating and then speaking your affirmations again and again and again and believing that you can achieve it, without doubting yourself or the universe, by visualising right before you sleep and trying to avoid/curtail any kind of negativity from your life by creating an Auric shield. You can google about ANY successful person and realise how most if not all of them, believed in the power of subconscious mind and reminded themselves that they could do it even when no one else in the world counted on them. It’s tough to build it (The auric shield) but once you’ll be able to do it, there will be no looking back. Its not like actually blocking the negativity, it’s about believing that you’ve blocked and it’s the belief which affects what happens to you thereafter. We’ve read about millionaires committing suicides and slum dwellers becoming millionaires, it all depends not only on the hard work or smart work or even luck but how you perceive the world and how magnificently you harness this power which is there in your since you were born. I neither believed in spirituality nor paranormal sciences but once I started taking help of these, I realised when science ends, spirituality starts. Where all the magic occurs and sooner you realise it the better. Just like any action takes about 30 days to become your habit, a habit takes about 3 months to become a part of your lifestyle and what’s better than adopting something which can help you achieve what you want.
